Pulpectomy or Baby’s Root Canal Treatment is a procedure that involves complete removal of the pulp tissue from the milk teeth and filling it with resorbable released material. Your child’s comfort is our top priority thus we won’t advise you for a pulpectomy also called Baby’s root canal unless absolutely necessary.
Baby’s root canal is done when there is a presence of infection or decay which has reached the nerve causing pain. It’s important to save the teeth until it’s the right time for the teeth to fall.
Root Canal Procedure
Step 1: Full mouth x-ray to plan the treatment and to study the condition of your child’s mouth
Step 2: Administering local anaesthesia to numb the tooth before starting the procedure
Step 3: Removal of decay by using hand instrument
Step 4: Removal of the nerve by using rotary instruments and hand instruments
Step 5: Cleaning and Filling of Root Canal
Step 6: Course of antibiotics and pain management
Post Procedure Care
After your child’s treatment is completed we will walk you through the postoperative instructions. It’s commonly advised to parents to keep a check on their kids’ lips and cheeks as they remain numb for an hour after the administration of local anaesthesia. So children bite on them unconsciously.
Time
The entire procedure of tooth extraction takes around 20-25 minutes.
Treatment charges
Treatment charge at our clinics is Rs.2500 per tooth
FAQs
Will there be any pain associated?
Our primary focus is making the child comfortable and at ease before starting any procedure. Therefore the procedure is absolutely pain free once the numbness has taken its effect. And for the numbness to take its effect, a local anaesthesia will have to be administered.
Why do Root canal treatment when the milk teeth fall off eventually?
It is because every tooth has a right time to fall off because it’s presence guides the permanent tooth during eruption. Also it’s the time when the child learns how to chew food, thus it’s very important to save a milk tooth until their permanent tooth erupts. Otherwise there will be mal-alignment in the teeth when your child grows up causing oral health complications in the future.
How do I know my baby needs a root canal?
When the tooth decay reaches the nerve of the teeth your child will complain of constant tooth pain.
If you notice any pus discharge near a decayed tooth
When your child’s sleep is disturbed because of the pain, all these are indications that the decay must have reached the pulp, thus needing a pulpectomy procedure to be done. It can be confirmed only by looking at an x-ray.
