Procedure

Diode laser light produces heat within the bacteria, the diseased cells of the tissue and vaporize the pocket lining epithelium without causing damage to the underlying connective tissue. It cleans up the area allowing the body to heal much better naturally. Soft tissue lasers have very low penetration depth and can cause no harm to the other tissues/organs.

• A topical local aesthetic gel/anaesthesia will be applied all over the gums
• The fibre optic tip is gently placed at the top of the periodontal pocket to remove the diseased tissue that lines the periodontal pocket
• The laser is designed to target and eliminate selective the diseased gum and germs leaving the healthy tissue unharmed
• Subgingival ultrasonic scaling is performed to remove the hard deposits from teeth
• The tip is placed again to remove the remaining diseased tissue

FAQs

Is the procedure painful?
Absolutely not! Although you may experience some minimal discomfort after having laser treatment. Each patient will vary with the sensitivity they experience. We have found that this initial discomfort is easily relieved in most cases by taking a pain killer which will be prescribed post procedure.

Is there any diet restriction?
Yes diet restriction would be to- Avoid hot/spicy food for 24 hours after the procedure and you will be advised to drink lots of water (1.5-2 litres) especially first 48 hours post operatively.

Do I need to stop my medication if I have to undergo this treatment?
Your dentist will guide you through the entire procedure, but because of the unique property of the laser assisted technology, you don’t have to stop your medication before undergoing this procedure.

What should I expect during my first consultation?
During your first consultation, a preliminary examination will be done to assess your oral health. An x-ray will be taken, to study your teeth and bone health. Accordingly your dentist will plan your treatment and discuss the goals of the treatment outcome with you.

I see some white spots on my gums. Should I be worried?
You may notice some slight sloughing of tissue as white patch, plus which is completely normal. Running a soft wash cloth lightly over the area will remove this excess tissue that is a result of your tissue healing. If left as such also; it should not be a cause for concern.
